CHELATION THERAPY

Derived from the Greek “chele” the claw of a crab or lobster, the word

Chelation

refers to the pincer like binding action of certain chemicals to a metal ion

Heavy metal toxicity:

The most common causes of heavy metal toxicity are dental amalgams, food, air, deodorant, toothpaste and occupational exposure.

Lead: May enter the body from paint, car exhaust fumes, welding, fertilizers, pesticides and industrial pollutants. Lead is toxic to the kidneys, nerves and red blood cells. Lead can also replace calcium in your bones weakening your skeletal structure. Moderate levels of lead have also been linked to problems with memory, concentration and nerve conduction. As well as anemia, fatigue, headaches and weight loss.

Mercury:
is liquid at room temperature but vaporizes easily and thus can be inhaled. It is also easily absorbed through the skin and intestines. Even minor mercury toxicity can aggravate neuro-muscular disorders as well as affecting memory, cognition, emotional stability, vision and appetite. The figure of speech “mad as a hatter” came about with the felt hat workers in England who used mercury in the preparation of the hats and subsequently went insane from mercury poisoning.

Cadmium: found in tobacco smoke, silver polish, metal plating and batteries. Cadmium can aggravate hypertension and damage the liver and kidneys.

Arsenic: often found in pesticides (especially those used on grapes) and wood preservatives. It can aggravate diarrhea or constipation and cause abdominal pain or a garlic type body odor.

What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation

Therapy

is a safe effective and relatively inexpensive treatment to restore blood flow in victims of atherosclerosis without surgery as well as other chronic disease conditions where removal of heavy metal toxicity becomes necessary.

Chelation

Therapy

involves the intravenous transfusion of a medicine called Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic Acid (EDTA)

What is EDTA?

EDTA is a substance which removes undesirable metals from the body. Some metals such as lead; mercury and cadmium are poisons. Lead and Cadmium levels correlate with high blood pressure. All metals even essential nutritional elements are toxic in excess or when abnormally situated. EDTA normalizes the distribution of most metallic elements in the body. EDTA improves calcium and cholesterol metabolism by eliminating metallic elements and metallic catalysts which cause damage to cell membranes by producing “oxygen free radicals”. Free radical pathology is now believed by many scientists to be an important contributing cause of atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes and other diseases of aging. EDTA helps prevent production of harmful free radicals. EDTA chelates or removes heavy metal ions from the lining of the artery wall. These heavy metal ions are chemical catalysts which increases damaging free radical oxidation in the arteries. Removing these metal ions slows down degeneration and in time reverses damage by removing hardened plaque deposits in the arteries. EDTA has also been found to stimulate the healing of cells lining the arteries. Taking

Chelation

turns back the clock on arterial degeneration restoring the arteries to a youthful supple state.

Other Chelating agents?

Chelox:

As a more holistic treatment protocol it is necessary to combine the use of EDTA with intravenous Hydrogen peroxide. The reason for this is that the hydrogen peroxide increases cellular oxygenation as well as supplying essential vitamins and minerals to the body. This helps to repair the damage caused to the heart muscle due to poor circulation and free radical damage. The efficiency of the combination therapy greatly reduces the recovery time and thus the required length of treatment.

DMPS:

DMPS is an extremely effective chelating chemical for the removal of arsenic and mercury, used primarily in the treatment of heavy metal toxicity this form of

Chelation

can reduce the number of treatments required when used in conjunction with EDTA. It can also be used by people who show sensitivity towards EDTA

DMSA:

DMSA is an oral form of

Chelation

therapy that is extremely useful for the removal of heavy metals from soft tissue. It is particularly useful for the removal of mercury from the brain tissue as it easily crosses the blood brain barrier. Used for the treatment of autism in children and when intravenous treatment is inconvenient.

The Use and advantages of chelation?

Chelation

Therapy

is used to reverse symptoms of hardening of the arteries, also known as atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is caused by multiple complex factors, including abnormal accumulations of metallic elements. The end result is plaque formation within arteries which blocks the flow of blood. Plaques are composed of fibrous tissue, cholesterol and calcium. Atherosclerosis leads to heart attacks, strokes, senility and may lead to amputation of extremities. Every single study of the use of

Chelation

Therapy

for atherosclerosis which has ever been published without exception, had described an improvement of blood flow and symptoms. Adverse editorial comments to the contrary lack evidence and stems primarily from physicians with a vested interest in catheterization and surgery.

Chelation

has shown to slow down progression of macular degeneration and decrease inflammation and pain caused by arthritis. This is done through the removal of metastatic calcium deposits in the joints and through the reduction of free radical damage which ‘steals’ electrons from the membranes lining the joints

How does Chelation Therapy affect Health?

Chelation

Therapy

promotes health by correcting the major underlying cause of arterial blockage. Damaging oxygen free radicals are increased by the metallic elements and act as a chronic irritant to blood vessel walls and cell membranes. EDTA removes the metallic irritants, allowing leaky and damaged cell walls to heal. Plaques smooth over and shrink, allowing more blood to pass. Arterial walls become softer and more pliable allowing easier expansion. Scientific studies have proved that blood flow increases after

Chelation

Therapy. A complete programme of

Chelation

Therapy

involves a broad based healthcare programme of regular exercise, proper nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplementation and avoidance of tobacco and other damaging habits.

What about safety and side effects?

Chelation

Therapy

is among the safest medical treatments. More than 400 000 have received over four million treatments during the past 30 years. Side effects are possible as with any drug Therapy, vein irritation, mild pain, headache and fatigue may occur. Occasionally a mild and transient fever occurs. These and other mild side effects, if they occur, are easily controlled by adjusting the duration and frequency of treatment. Side effects tend to diminish after the first few treatments. Most patients experience few or no side effects.
